Mail ballots must be submitted and received either by mail or dropped off in person. A physical mail ballot cannot be returned via fax or email. It is STRONGLY recommended that voters return their ballot via the U.S. Post Office.
To return ballots via mail, voters must:
Note: Washoe County created videos (in English and Spanish) that walk through these steps.
When the elections officials receive the voted mail ballots, they will begin a series of steps to process that ballot:
Drop off Locations during Early Vote
There will be drop off locations for the 14 days of Early Voting, so that voters may drop off their voted mail ballot instead of returning it via mail. These locations are generally county buildings or city halls; these sites will not be outside, so voters must go inside the building. There is no “curbside” voting in which voters can remain in their vehicles while dropping off their ballots.
Voters cannot pick up a ballot at the site, leave, and then return with their completed ballot at a listed location. Voters must receive their ballot via mail (or email, if the Election Dept. deems it appropriate) and cannot pick up a ballot anywhere.
