During the 81st (2021) legislative session, Nevada passed Assembly Bill 126. Sponsored by Assemblyman Frierson, Assemblywomen Benitez-Thompson and Brittney Miller, AB126 transitions Nevada from a “Caucus System” to a “Presidential Primary Preference Election”. This election will occur on the second Tuesday in February of a presidential election year. State party officials suggested Nevada as the ideal choice for the first slot of the calendar year because of its diverse population, history as a swing state, and recent policies that make voting more accessible, such as same-day voter registration, two weeks of early voting before elections, and universal mail voting.
