Nevada’s primary election allows voters to determine which candidates compete in the November general election and can be nonpartisan or partisan. In partisan primaries, voters choose the candidates they prefer for a political party to nominate in the general election.
The primary election in Nevada is ‘closed.’ This means only registered major party members (Democrats or Republicans) can vote for candidates of their party and nonpartisan races. If your party affiliation is not one of Nevada’s two major political parties, you may only vote in non-partisan races. Note: Nonpartisan voters can update their registration to participate in partisan races. Visit: RegisterToVote.NV.gov to update your registration.
Major Political Parties:
Democratic: If you are registered with the Democratic Party, you may vote in your precinct’s contests which select Democratic candidates, AND in all your precinct’s nonpartisan contests.
Republican: If you are a registered Republican, you may vote in your precinct’s contests which select Republican candidates, AND in all of your precinct’s nonpartisan contests.
