How to Register to Vote

Standard Voter Registration

The deadline to register by paper form is Tuesday, October 8, 2024. If you need to register or update your voter registration after this date, you may do so online or via same-day registration.

Online Voter Registration

Eligible Nevada voters can register to vote and update their voter registration information online, including change of address and party affiliation. A Nevada DMV-issued Driver's License or ID is required for online voter registration.
Please note:

  • If you register or update your voter registration online by or on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, you will still be able to receive a mail ballot.
  • If you register or update existing registration on or after Wednesday, October 23, 2024, you must vote in person at any early voting site or Election Day vote center.

If you need to register or update your voter registration on or after October 23, 2024, our reccomendation is to participate in same-day registration during early voting (October 19 - November 1) or on Election Day (November 5).

Same-Day Registration

Same-day Registration (SDR) is a process available during early voting or on Election Day in which voters can update their existing registration or register to vote. Voters can technically do so online or in-person, but we recommend going in-person for same-day registration.

How do I same-day register?
You may do same-day registration in-person at any polling place during early voting or on Election Day. When you check into the polling place, let the election worker know you need to update your registration or register to vote. See below for ID requirements for SDR. Once you finish updating or registering, you must immediately cast your ballot at the polling place.

SDR Requirements

If you want to participate in SDR, you MUST bring one of the following IDs:

  • Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driver’s license,
  • Nevada DMV-issued state identification card,
    Nevada DMV Interim Document
    • This is the paper receipt you receive after completing a DMV NV ID interaction, which serves as your temporary card until your new card arrives in your possession.
  • Nevada tribal Identification card, if it contains the appropriate fields.

Please note:

  • The ID you bring MUST be CURRENT AND VALID, meaning it is unexpired.
  • Any other form of identification, including a military ID or passport, cannot be used for same-day registration to prove your identity.
  • The DMV ID must be issued by the Nevada DMV; out-of-state IDs will not work.

If your Nevada driver’s license or ID does not have your current residential address, you will also need to present a valid proof of residence. We recommend bringing a physical copy. The following items can be used as proof of residence:

  • A military identification card
  • A bank or credit union statement
  • A paycheck
  • An income tax return
  • A property tax statement
  • A motor vehicle registration
  • A utility bill (electric, gas, oil, water, sewer, septic, cell phone, cable, etc.)
  • A mortgage statement, or residential rental or lease agreement
  • Any other document issued by a governmental agency

When you cast your ballot, it will be a provisional ballot. A provisional ballot will be counted after the following information about the voter has been verified:

  • Qualified to cast a ballot in the current election.
  • Did not cast multiple ballots in the same election.
  • Showed accepted identification during registration.
  • If necessary, provide additional proof of residency.
